Today, the Mold Solutions team was dispatched to a home in Little Silver to service a Sanidry XP dehumidifier that we had sold and installed. There is no better preventative measure for keeping mold at bay. We have sold many of these units to people who didn’t have active mold growth and wanted to keep it that way. Now, this homeowner will be moving once again, but this time out of state. She contacted us for a final servicing of the unit here in New Jersey and to have the unit prepped for transport. From our experience, installing one of our commercial-grade dehumidifiers is the best preventative measure against dangerous mold growth. However, just like air conditioners and furnaces, they must be periodically serviced for them to continue to working properly and to maximize their effectiveness. Although these units are maintenance- and trouble-free during their operation throughout the year, you can’t just install forget about them. These humidifiers are complex equipment that require yearly servicing. If they are located in a very dirty or dusty area, the units may need to have the filters changed more often than annually. If the filters become clogged, the motor can overheat and blow out. Why is Cowleys such a big proponent of these units? For mold control and improving the comfort level and air quality in your home, installing a whole-house commercial grade dehumidifier makes all the difference. Dehumidification is as important to a home as your heating and air conditioning systems. If there is mold from high indoor humidity levels, there are certainly ways to reduce humidity levels like properly venting bathrooms and dryers and using exhaust fans when cooking. However, these steps can only reduce humidity levels so much. If you are serious about reducing humidity levels, the only surefire way is installing a whole-house commercial grade dehumidifier. There is a misconception that the moisture and water intrusion problems that cause mold only comes from leaky pipes and flooding. In fact, the most common source of indoor mold is high indoor relative humidity. It does not take much to build up excessive moisture indoors. Our daily household activities like showering, drying clothes, cooking add pints of moisture to the indoor air. Even our breathing expels moisture into the air. In homes with dirt crawl spaces, gallons of moisture from the uncovered ground enters the home’s living spaces. Elevated humidity levels not only had to mold and other moisture-related problems like mildew (mold growing on fabrics) and dust mite infestations but also discomfort for the occupants. As we know from the hot muggy days of summer, people are very sensitive to humidity. Our commercial grade dehumidifiers drop indoor humidity to comfortable levels, allowing the home’s occupants to breathe clean, dry air. Indoor air quality is more than just something that’s “nice” for your family; it is essential for keeping your family healthy throughout the year, especially if any family members are young, elderly, or have asthma, allergies, or other respiratory issues. Our dehumidification service call consists of a filter change, a cleaning of the drain pan, and a check-up of the overall unit. To prep this unit for transport, we disassembled it from the sump pump, completely drained it, and finally, we shrink-wrapped it nice and tight to keep the tubing in place and everything nice and tight for transport.
